About

What We Are

Rock the Autism is a California non-profit organization dedicated to bringing a lifetime of music to those living with autism. We do this through special assemblies and school programs plus through weekly sessions at the Boys and Girls Club.

RTA was founded by San Clemente locals David "Rocky" Neidhardt III and Joey Santley with help from Joshua Paskowitz and Matt Hamilton.

Our inspiration comes from Luke Santley, son of Joey who sits on our Board of Directors. We have watched him grow into an incredible kid. He has always been rhythmic and one day he sat behind a drum kit and had the best time of his life playing the drums - giving him the biggest smile we had ever seen. That is the moment we knew what we had to do and ROCK THE AUTISM was born!

Positive Steps

  • step 1
Autism is the #1 medical issue affecting children today and yet it is on the bottom of the list for research funding.
  • step 2
Rock The Autism sees a growing need today and into the future for positive programs that include the special needs community - specifically programs to aid families living with autism.
  • step 3
RTA wishes to fill this need nationwide by starting RTA chapters in every community across the country.
  • step 4
Our program is ALWAYS FREE to kids and parents.

Testimonials

Kids, Instructors Rock The Autism in Music Classes
"12-week pilot program at the Boys & Girls Club in San Clemente matches local musicians with children with disabilities and without. Organizers say it’s ‘making breakthroughs’ for autistic kids as they learn instruments and forge new friendships."

A Thankful Mom
"Rock the Autisim ROCKS! This testimonial comes from a mom of a child who does not have special needs. Whats the benefit for her you ask? So many! She learns to be aware and comfortable with special needs children. She learns their behavior is normal and how to interact positively with them. She learns that they are just like her and not be apprehensive. I've seen her grow from this interaction in daily life and how she responds to others. In addition, she has learned how much she loves music and instruments and wants to continue to rock out with great guys of this organization. Honestly this is a program for all! From a thankful mom."

Rock The Autism, A Real Game Changer
"RTA has been an absolute game-changer for Alex, 7, who was diagnosed with Autism when he was 2. We don't ever miss a week.  He is crazy about the drums and bass especially. They are so encouraging and supportive to him, and make him feel special.  He appears to have a natural gift for music, and RTA has helped nurture and strengthen those abilities.  We are hopeful that maybe soon he will even come out of his shell and try singing next.  Our family is so thrilled and grateful to have found this program!"
